Updated ICTWSS database

The ICTWSS database covers four key elements of modern political economies in advanced capitalist societies: trade unionism, wage setting, state intervention and social pacts. It contains annual data for 34 countries running from 1960 till 2007, and covers 90 variables... Some new variables that may be of interest, for instance the composition of union members.

Below the data for the US... Almost half of union members are in the public sector, fairly gender balanced and 58% are between 34 and 54 years old, and only 22.8% in the industries and only 22.8% are manual workers. This confirms the shift the union base to the public sector and it interesting to note that unions are now predominantly composed of people working in services (77%).
